Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site

If you are a figurative sculptor, this artist residency is perfect for you! Be the Sculptor-in-Residence at New Hampshire’s only National Park during the centennial of the National Park Service. This site features the studios, home and work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of America’s greatest sculptors.

Each year Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site (nps.gov/saga) offers an artist the opportunity to serve as sculptor-in-residence. Because of the nature of the site and the position, this residency is specifically for figurative sculptors. He or she has exclusive use of the historic Ravine Studio and materials and most tools are provided (clay, plaster, wire etc.). The sculptor, while working on his or her artwork, runs an open studio. Park visitors may visit the studio and the sculptor can explain or demonstrate the sculptural process. This helps visitors to better understand and appreciate the sculpture they see at the park and in their own communities. During the summer the sculptor also develops and conducts, a series 16 -18, three-hour, basic to intermediate level sculpture workshops, so students learn some of the basics of the sculpture process.

The sculptor serves an important role in the Site's interpretive program, allowing visitors to see how an artist works, ask questions, and thus learn something about the sculptural process. For this reason, while the sculptor works on his or her own art, it must be representational in form, either in the round, or in relief. With extensive visitor contact, it is important that this person be comfortable interacting with the public.

This position is a wonderful opportunity for sculptors. Not only does the artist have the chance to spend the summer working on his/her art and receive great public exposure, they do so in one of New England's most beautiful and culturally significant settings.

The Sculptor-in-Residence is arranged through the Student Conservation Association (thesca.org). The sculptor works Wednesday-Sunday, 8:30 - 5:00, from mid-May through late October. A stipend and housing are included. To apply, go to:

Belvoir Terrace, a girls Visual and Performing Arts Summer program, located in Lenox, MA, has ONE opening for the summer of 2015: Salary $2,600 (negotiable depending on teaching experience) plus travel allowance, room, board, and art supplies. MFA artists interested in teaching talented, motivated young women in a supportive, individually structured residential arts community.  Fifteen art teachers, each a specialist with their own teaching studio.  Staff order their supplies and develop curriculum.  Teaching experience preferred, but talented artists given a chance to gain experience.  Limited specific counseling, must be comfortable living, teaching, working in an all arts community.  No Smokers.

2015 Head Start Modeling Competition

The National  Sculpture Society  is accepting entries to the 2015 Head Start Modeling Competition. The competition takes place in  Philadelphia on June 26 and is open to sculptors ages 21-35. Artist's Assistant

We are looking for 1-2 assistants to paint at the artist's studio. 

 

The position would be part-time and hours per week would be flexible and depend on the project. Rate per hour starting at $15. The artist's studio is located in Jersey City in Mana Contemporary. He has another studio in Soho, but assistants would be working in the New Jersey location. 

 

Skills/ Requirements:

- Ability to paint in a hyperrealistic style with oil paint

- Build frames and stretchers

- Stretch canvases

- Art handeling

- Willing to work on other projects of mixed media.

"Creating Landscapes Within the Landscape" Olana State Historic Site​ - FOURTH ANNUAL PLEIN AIR COMPETITION HOSTED BY COLUMBIA COUNTY COUNCIL ON THE ARTS & THE OLANA PARTNERSHIP
The Olana Partnership and Columbia County Council on the Arts announce a Call for Entries for artists wishing to be considered for the fourth annual Plein Air event at Olana: Creating Landscapes Within the Landscape, taking place July 9-12, 2015. Participating artists will paint on location throughout Olana's 250-acre artist-designed landscape. Saturday, July 11th is the afternoon reception and public exhibition, where artists will have the chance to meet and greet, and their chosen canvases will be put up to live auction. Sunday, July 12th artists will have the opportunity to sell additional works under a tent at Olana from 10-2 pm. This year artists will be selected by a panel of distinguished jurors including M. Stephen Doherty, artist, writer & editor of PleinAir magazine, Hudson realist painter Ken Young, and artist and gallerist Joan Damiani. The deadline for all submissions is midnight Saturday, April 18th.

Eric Fischl Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program

Eric Fischl ’66 Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program

2015-16 School Year

 

West Nottingham Academy alumnus and world renowned artist, Eric Fischl ’66 established the Eric Fischl Artist-in-Residence Teaching Program as a collaborative project between West Nottingham Academy (WNA) and the New York Academy of Art (NYAA).  Each year, three MFA graduates from NYAA will be selected, one for each trimester of the Residency.

 

Residency will run for 10-12 weeks during each of Nottingham’s trimesters as follows:

·         August 31 – November 18, 2015 (12 weeks)

·         November 30, 2015 – March 2, 2016 (12 weeks – school closed 12/20/2015-1/3/2016)

·         March 21 – May 27, 2016 (10 weeks)

 

Each Resident will be provided the following:

·         $8,000 stipend per artist (paid through WNA payroll) – Stipend includes travel, supplies, personal expenses, etc.

·         Personal studio space near art room and resources

·         Modest accommodations in a WNA apartment or guest room, including Internet

·         Meals in the WNA dining hall while school is in session

 

Residency encompasses the following responsibilities:

·         Teaching 2 courses (coordinated through Trish Kuhlman based on skill set)

·         Display of Artist’s work in WNA’s Gates Gallery space during residency begins, and presentation of work to the community following the residence

·         Deliver/facilitate one community-based lecture or workshop

·         Travel with school as needed for various classes

 

Selection:

Artists are chosen based on the following areas of expertise:

Fall Trimester – Drawing, Painting and Color Theory

Winter Trimester – 3D Sculpture or Ceramics *

Spring Trimester – Printmaking, Digital Media or Photography *

*Note: Winter and Spring are interchangeable

 

Please note, as a condition of the residency, all resident artists must submit to a State of Maryland Criminal Background check as required by Maryland Law, and must provide a transcript from an accredited college or university indicating the conferring of a degree.

·         One-page artist statement describing your work

·         One-page pedagogical statement outlining your approach to teaching

·         Current CV

·         Cover letter specifying the discipline you would be applying to teach and the trimester you would prefer to teach

The AAF/Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts

Each year, The AAF/Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts (formerly The Daisy Soros Prize and The Hayward Prize) offers US fine arts graduate students, or those who have completed their graduate studies within the past two years, the opportunity to study at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg in Austria. Founded in 1953 by world-famous painter Oskar Kokoschka, the International Summer Academy offers an unrivalled environment, with work sites at the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Old Salt Factory on Perner Insel (Island) on the Salzach River.  This particular international experience gives young artists not only the opportunity to study with well-known and respected international artists from around the world, but also the chance to immerse themselves in a program that is both rich in cultural tradition and academically challenging. The Tulsa Artist Fellowship

The Tulsa Artist Fellowship provides unrestricted awards between $15,000 and $40,000 for artists in all stages of their career. In addition, the TAF will provide free housing and work-space in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All non-resident fellows will be required to live in the provided housing.

Call for Armory Volunteers

The Hort Family will be opening up their home in Tribeca again this year during Armory Arts Week, providing a rare glimpse into one of New York's most exciting private collections of contemporary art.

 

We are looking for volunteers to help for both the exclusive Friday night (March 6th) preview as well as the Sunday Brunch (March 8th), where the Rema Hort Mann Foundation will also be open to Armory VIP pass holders, accompanied by bagels and coffee at Taymour Grahne Gallery next door.

 

Friday March 6, 2015 from 6.30 - 9.00 pm, call time is 6.00 pm.

Sunday March 8, 2015 from 9.30 - 1.00 pm, call time is 9.15 am. 

 

Volunteers will be asked to perform a number of duties, including greeting guests, managing guest lists, checking coats, monitoring gallery spaces, and ushering guests between upstair and downstairs areas of the Hort's home.

 

Please note, we have a few dedicated coat check positions available that we will be offering as paid. Please let us know if you are interested in one of these positions.

 

This is a wonderful opportunity to view the newly installed Hort Family Collection, representing some of their most recent acquisitions, and all proceeds from the events will go toward supporting the Rema Hort Mann Foundation.

Applications now open: NewYork City Visual Artists Artadia Awards 2015

Artadia is pleased to announce its inaugural New York Awards. The online application is now open to all visual artists living within the five boroughs, working in any media, and at any stage in their career. The application will close on April 15th, and funds will be distributed to Award recipients in summer 2015. The 2015 New York Awardees will each receive up to $20,000 in unrestricted funds and will gain access to a lifetime of professional support.

Artadia Awardees are selected through a two-tiered jury process that combines local expertise with outside perspective from leading national curators and artists. A preliminary panel will evaluate all submissions and select ten Finalists based on the merit of their work. A second panel of curators will then conduct studio visits in New York with the Finalists, gaining a broader context for the artists’ work. In May 2015, up to five Awardees will be selected and announced from the Finalist pool.

The New York Artadia Awards are open to any artist who has lived within New York City's five boroughs for two or more years, and is not currently enrolled in an art-related degree program. Artadia's application is free of charge and does not require a project outline. We highly encourage artists to apply if they are interested in having their work seen by a panel of prominent curators and artists.

Wayfarers Summer Artist in Residence Program

Wayfarers is now accepting applications for our Summer Artist in Residence Program. The program awards one artist the opportunity to develop a body of work in the supportive environment of Wayfarers, where ten other working artists have studios. The selected artist is awarded our 400 square foot ground floor gallery to use as a studio for 2 months (July and August 2015) and provided unlimited access to the Wayfarers facilities, including the woodshop and silkscreen equipment. The residency culminates in a solo exhibition in the gallery in September 2015. Wayfarers can not provide travel, lodging or living expenses. Application Fee is $15. All proceeds directly benefit the Summer Artist in Residence Program.

Wayfarers is located on the edge of the Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods in Brooklyn, in what has rapidly become the latest New York haven for artists and musicians.
