Window Studio of Bedford-Stuyvesant is seeking an emerging  to mid-career artist for their Artist-In-Residence program (AIR). The selected candidate will foster the mission of the organization while developing their own studio practice.

The Window Studio AIR is an intensive 6-month studio artist residency designed to immerse artists in their studio practice while sharing their process with the local community. Artists from all media are invited to apply. Four residencies, two held concurrently, are offered each year. Emerging artists living and working in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community are given preference but all New York City artists are welcome to apply.

Since an important component of the Window Studio AIR program is to interact with members of the community, applicants must be able to spend a minimum of 15 hours per week working in the studio. The artist will design and teach 1 weekend class and 1 weekday class per semester (2 classes total) There will be opportunities to teach additional workshops as well. The selected artist will receive unlimited studio access during the 6-month period as permitted by operating hours and monthly transportation stipend. The artist will have a culminating exhibition in the Window Studio Gallery. 

Window Studio AIR Eligibility:
The Window Studio AIR is ideal for emerging and mid-career artists working to develop their studio practice and career experience. Applicants cannot have an affiliation with any institution as a full or part-time student, fellow, or already be an artist-in-residence at another studio. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent MFA graduate.

Window Studio Hours of Operation Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Saturday - Sunday: 11.00 am – 4:00 pm.

All applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm, Friday, August 29, 2014. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email by Friday, September 12, 2014.

All application materials must be submitted via email. A website, temporary website or blog is required to complete the application. Window Studio will not accept image attachments. All images on submitted web pages should include image specifications such as media, titles, date and size. Attachments will not be accepted for other required application materials. Application materials
should be included in the body of the email.

Williamsburgh Library - Visual Arts Studios

Spaceworks is building 3 new affordable visual art studios within the Williamsburgh Library. EFA Studios Open Call for Applications: Deadline Dec. 10th

ABOUT EFA STUDIO PROGRAM
The EFA Studio Program was created to provide affordable studio space within a community of artists, facilitate career development, and promote public and critical exposure for our members. Members of the studio program are professional artists with a developed studio practice. Our members create work in a wide range of media and artistic sensibilities creating a vibrant and diverse community of peers.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is available to artists through an application and selection process. Members receive a private studio for a period of up to two years that is subsidized at below market cost. Membership renewal is possible after two years through a reapplication process.

LOCATION
All studios are located in the EFA building at 323 West 39th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in Midtown Manhattan.

DESCRIPTION AND COST
Studios range in size from 200 to 440 square feet. Ceilings are 11 feet high. Membership fees vary according to the size and shape of the studio assigned to the artist, the studio's location in the building, and the artist's demonstrated financial need. Access to the studios is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

ELIGIBILITY
Visual artists working in all forms of media are eligible. The program is designed for artists with a developed studio practice and career. Applicants cannot be enrolled in a college or university degree-granting program. Certain types of work cannot be accommodated for practical reasons, including large or heavy sculptures, some types of metal work, and work involving high noise levels or fire risk. Applications are judged solely on the quality of the work as presented. EFA does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or marital status. Artists must be citizens of the United States, or must be legal U.S residents during their tenure.

DEADLINE AND NOTIFICATION PROCESS
All applications must be submitted online by or before Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Applicants with DVD submissions of their work must complete the online application by Tuesday, December 10, 2013and mail-in the DVD, postmarked on or before Tuesday, December 10, 2013. All applicants will be notified by email by Friday, January 17, 2014 of the receipt of their application and if the materials are complete or incomplete. All applicants will be notified by email or by mail of the outcome of their application by Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Please do not call the office for selection results.

Shared Greenpoint Studio Space with window for rent- $400 for 200 sf

The studio is a shared 525 square foot space at Greenpoint Ave. between Newel and Provost St. In a lovely warehouse/studio complex. It is clean, safe, close to the Greenpoint G train. The building has 24 hour security, with 24 hour access. The brick buildings are newly renovated with new windows, heat, air conditioning, internet, slop sink, shared kitchen and beautiful bathrooms that are cleaned multiple times a week. There is also a freight elevator and a shared gallery space where people put on their own shows. We are apart of the Brooklyn Art Studios group that participates in Open Studios and many other social activities.

The private studio itself will be shared by the 3 of us and has hardwood floors and a wall of windows (with east facing light). We have done our best to make it homey and a happy productive working space. Allison (www.allisonmaletz.com) is a watercolor, photographer and media artist, She does not make a mess doesn’t work with any solvents. Rachel is a photographer and mixed media/fine art media artist. Our practices are both very self contained, keeping our paint and materials to ourselves and we prefer not to work in a dusty environment (no wood sanding, ceramics, dust, etc.).

We are looking for a studio mate who also works with nontoxic materials. We are renting 200 sf of the 525 square foot space for $400 a month. We are open to short or long term renters on a month to month lease. Utilities range from about $5-10 per person per month and are based on our room’s electricity usage.

One month rent, and One month for a security deposit are required for move in at the earliest Feb 20, at the latest March 1, 2013.
