The Fine Art Department at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design invites applications for an adjunct instructor of painting. The College is seeking a qualified candidate to teach FA283 Painting from Observation: Color, Form and Space I, a sophomore level course. The course is scheduled for Fridays from 10-5, beginning September 5th, 2014, and runs for 14 classes.

Course Description:
This course shares many of the objectives of FA281 Drawing From Observation, but in the medium of paint. Students will learn the characteristics, techniques, and applications of oil and water-based paint and mediums utilizing still life, interiors, and the human figure as subject. Students will be taught an integrated approach to accurate seeing, response to materials, construction of form, and design. Historic and contemporary examples of painting from direct observation will be studied to illustrate technical, formal, and aesthetic concepts.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the techniques associated with oil and water-based paint, and the ability to teach these techniques in conjunction with a sophisticated marriage of concept and context.

A portfolio of painting from observation is preferable. MFA or equivalent required.

New Artist Retreat Program

The Mayapple Center for the Arts and Humanities will launch this summer with ten pilot 5-day masterclasses in the visual arts, music, theater, creative writing and humanities.
 
Mayapple creates an atmosphere where artists and scholars of exceptional stature come to teach and collaborate with small groups of dedicated, like-minded participants. Just one hour north of New York City, Mayapple offers diverse programs for adults in a retreat environment.

Call for Work: Submit to Vox X

Vox Populi is happy to announce an open call for VOX X – our tenth annual juried exhibition of emerging artists, which will take place July 11–August 1, 2014. Jurors are Howie Chen and Matthew Brannon.
The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2014.
