The George Billis Gallery - Intern

The George Billis Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Chelsea, seeks part-time interns to assist with all aspects of gallery work, including installing shows, delivering artwork, managing inventory records, and assisting with opening receptions.

NYC-Detroit Artist Residency Program

PLAYGROUND DETROIT x Spread Art
April 15th- May 13th, 2013
Detroit, MI
Spread Art and PLAYGROUND DETROIT have teamed up to offer a month long New York artist residency program in Detroit, MI. At the end of the residency, the artist-in-residence will have a solo exhibit at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) or Whitdel Arts, dependent on the artist medium. The artistwill then also participate in a group show during Bushwick Open Studios in Brooklyn, NY in early June 2013 for joint-exposure in both cities. As a part of the residency program, the artist will be asked to engage and give back to the Detroit community through a workshop with a local organization or youth group.
The NYC-DET Residency Program aims to generate and encourage exchange between local Detroit artistsand artists from NYC, believing that this interaction is a unique way to gain new experiences in a different context, while encountering other view points and perspectives concerning contemporary art coming out of Detroit. The residency program cost to the artist is travel/airfare, cost of materials,  plus a $200 fee which covers artist living arrangement, use of a bicycle, and access to transportation when required. ThroughSpread Art, the artist will be introduced to members of the art community as well as the greater Detroit community, and be invited to various events, gallery openings, and exhibits during their stay.
Key Dates:
April 15th- May 13th, 2013: Residency Program in Detroit, MI (Mexicantown)
Mid/late May 2013: Artist solo show in Detroit, MI, held at Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) orWhitdel Arts
Early June 2013: Bushwick Open Studios Spread Art x PLAYGROUND DETROIT Summer Group Show, location TBA

Intern at Churner and Churner

Churner and Churner is currently seeking gallery interns for Spring 2013. Intern responsibilities may include correspondence, assisting at openings and gallery events, research, press communication, image archiving and other miscellaneous tasks tailored to your particular interests.  Candidates should have completed or be in the process of completing a BA in Art History or a related field with a particular interest in contemporary art, possess strong computer and communication skills and be willing to commit to a minimum of one full day per week over the Spring Semester.

Churner and Churner combines solo shows by emerging and mid-career artists with art-historical public programs, hosting seven exhibitions annually. In addition to presenting the work of contemporary artists, the gallery regularly produces historical shows that resonate with current practices.  Between exhibitions, the gallery serves as a venue for film and video screenings, long-duration performances, and installations.

Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and experience in html/web design are preferred.
