Teleportraiture is looking for a host!  Janet Bruesselbach's series of
45 small oil portraits painted from live remote videochat sittings is
fully funded on Kickstarter, but needs a friendly space to show in
April or May to fulfill her promises to the backers.  This is urgent
and needs to be scheduled and confirmed ASAP.  We will need to host
two receptions, preferably with enough internet connectivity and
computers to allow for remote attendance.  The show can last 2-4
weeks, in the NY area, preferably Manhattan.  Janet can take care of
everything and cover most costs, but would prefer not to pay Manhattan
rent.

Open Call for Solo Exhibition in New Williamsburg Restaurant


Arts By the People is partnering with the St. Austere restaurant to offer
solo show opportunities. The restaurant (slated to open September 5, 2011) is located on Grand St,
in the trendy Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

The wall space for exhibition is 50 feet wide X 4 feet high, and needs a
minimum of 5 pieces.
They have track lighting to illuminate the works.
There will be an opening and will print postcards.
The restaurant will keep a price list on the premises.
Each show will be up for two months.
The venue/curator takes a 25% commission and can handle sales if desired
by the artist.
Insurance is not provided.

Accepted work must be dropped off and picked up on scheduled days: works
cannot be stored!

Sharon M. Louden is a full-time practicing, professional artist who lives and works in New York. Ms. Louden holds a B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Yale University, School of Art. Louden's work is held in major public and private collections throughout the United States, Asia and Europe, including the Neuberger Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, National Gallery of Art, Arkansas Arts Center, Yale University Art Gallery, Weatherspoon Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.

Sharon Louden has also taught studio and professional practice classes students of all levels in colleges and universities throughout the United States. Louden has lectured and taught at numerous venues including Kansas City Art Institute, College of Saint Rose, Massachusetts College of Art, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Tyler School of Art. For the past 3 years Sharon was teaching the Theory, Practice and Career course at the New School/Parsons in New York City.

Georgia Museum of Art/ Kress Foundation

Fifty years ago, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation gave a small collection of Italian Renaissance paintings to the Georgia Museum of Art. Now, in celebration of that anniversary the Georgia Museum of Art announces the Kress Project. The museum is soliciting responses to these paintings. All ages and all levels of education may participate. Details on how to submit, submission forms, images of the paintings and information on them are available on this website. At the end it will be judged by a panel who will choose up to 24 winners to be published in a book and awarded a $500 prize each. Qualifications: Open. The BFA program in the Studio Art Department at Manhattanville College invites applications for the position of full time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sculpture. A MFA, previous undergraduate teaching experience, and an exhibition record are required. The successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for the Sculpture area, including the teaching of foundational and upper-level sculpture courses, participation in curricular planning and design, and general maintenance of the sculpture facilities. It is also important that the candidate possess knowledge of contemporary theory, concepts and critical issues, plus traditional techniques, art history and general practices of fine art sculpture. Evidence of integration across aesthetic disciplines is desired. This successful candidate is also expected to have some experience in other media areas, i.e. drawing, ceramics, or digital media. Advising, service to the college, and participation in the college's general education programs are expected of all faculty. 


All candidates must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, a list of technical strengths, sample syllabi, and a list of three references. Twenty images of student work and twenty images of the artist's own work should be submitted on a CD/DVD or URL. Fall 2012 is our anticipated start date subject to pending budgetary approval.

MTA ARTS FOR TRANSIT FALL 2011 INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is North America's largest transportation network, which moves approximately 2.4 billion New Yorkers a year on its subways, buses, railroads, bridges and tunnels.  MTA Headquarters (MTAHQ) is a public benefit corporation chartered to provide general oversight, planning and administration to its seven operating agencies which are: MTA New York City Transit, MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Long Island Bus, MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, MTA Capital Construction Company, and MTA Bus Company.
In conjunction with a massive rehabilitation program launched in the 1980's, MTA Arts for Transit was created to oversee the selection of artists and installation of permanent artworks in MTA subway and commuter rail stations. The program is intended to enhance the transit environment and promote the use of mass transit. Arts for Transit's diverse and beautiful collection of commissioned public artwork includes more than 215 site-specific artworks and 70 projects in progress. Responsibilities

The AFT Archive Intern will learn about the public art process and further develop research and archiving skills. Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, assisting staff with the following:

Artist Registry
Create an AFT Artist Registry: compile and organize artists' submissions, conduct research and add data and images of artwork to the Registry using Filemaker Pro.
AFT Oral History
Participate in the research and creation of AFT Oral History project with artists, staff and stakeholders.
AFT Lightbox and Creative Stations Program Archive
Archive materials for AFT's Lightbox and Creative Station Programs: conduct research, compile records, and assist to construct a comprehensive historic timeline for both programs.


Qualifications

Excellent research, data collection and report writing capabilities
Strong interpersonal communications skills, both oral and written
Proven ability to prioritize and work on multiple assignments simultaneously
PC and Mac proficiency
Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Filemaker Pro
Student must be work study or college credit eligible, min. of 15 hours per week is required

Education and Experience

Must be a college student with high school diploma or a GED.
Majors in art history, arts administration, library science or history preferred
Graduate studies, a plus

The AFT Administrative Intern will learn about the public art process and further develop administrative and arts management skills. Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, assisting staff with the following: 

Inventory of the MTA Headquarters art collection Evaluate, document and organize artwork installed (and in storage) throughout MTA Headquarters. New permanent art projects Call for, receive and process artist submissions. Prepare presentations and supporting materials needed for artist selection and orientation meetings. Attend artist selection and orientation meetings, provide assistance with notes and follow up correspondence. Essential administrative support Support daily office activity: monitor phone, mail, and email communications; respond to program inquiries; update press and artist lists; prepare for and staff special lectures, tours and special events. Research to support the Permanent Art program and the Arts for Transit Collection
