Based in Lower Manhattan and supported by public funds, the LES Studio Program provides free three and six-month residencies to under-represented, emerging and mid-career artists. The Department of Art and Art History invites applicants for a full time rolling faculty position beginning August 2015, pending budget approval. Rank and salary commensurate with experience.


Responsibilities: We seek a candidate who is an artist and an enthusiastic educator with a strong desire to build the program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels to majors and non-majors. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to his or her personal studio practice and program/curriculum planning and development. The faculty member will teach a 3-3 course load for 2015-2016, that includes two ceramics classes (wheel and hand built), two three-dimensional design foundation classes, one sculpture class based on material exploration and one class in the liberal arts core curriculum. Other responsibilities include advising students in the discipline, overseeing and managing the sculpture and ceramics studios and related areas, participating in student portfolio reviews and other duties as specified by the department chair.

Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Earned Master of Fine Arts ( MFA ) with a consistent record of active engagement in the discipline. Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of sculpture and ceramics, be able to articulate contemporary, historical and conceptual issues as well as manage the sculpture and ceramics facilities. Minimum 2 years college teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship.


Preferred Qualifications: An MFA in Sculpture with an emphasis in ceramics is preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with evidence of college teaching effectiveness. A commitment to contemporary art practice and good writing, speaking and interpersonal skills are also preferred. Applicants should have a strong interest in foundations level teaching for both majors and non-majors.

Program Director for the Summer Art Adventure Program - The Art League of Long Island

The Art League of Long Island, a not-for-profit 501 ( c )( 3 ) organization has an opening for a Program Director for the Summer Art Adventure Program. The Summer Art Adventure Program is a seasonal program offered in July and August. This is a specialty art program that offers the opportunity for students to explore the creative process, learn about art history, build new art skills and participate in an art show for family and friends.

The Program Director must have the ability to lead, manage, supervise and develop staff and oversee a complex operation.
  • Bachelor’s degree, MFA desirable
  • 5 years art teaching experience, camp director experience a plus
  • Ability to recruit, train, develop and evaluate staff of art instructors, class assistants & volunteers
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills
