Assistant Professor - Sculpture - Dept of Studio Arts and Art History

Hamline University Department of Studio Arts and Art History invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Sculpture to begin in the Fall Semester of 2015. Master of Fine Arts degree required; two years teaching experience beyond graduate school and a significant exhibition history required. We seek a professional artist with the ability to teach both traditional and contemporary 3D/sculptural art practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate dedication, achievement and commitment to teaching and scholarship; she/he will be expected to advance the Sculpture program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels. It is essential that the candidate be professional, well organized and have the ability and desire to work with faculty colleagues in Studio Arts and Art History in a small liberal arts department.

Specific Requirements: The candidate will demonstrate the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary shop environment and is responsible for equipment maintenance with the assistance of a part-time student worker. Specialization in a specific medium will be complemented by the ability to teach all levels of Sculpture including 3D and 2D Design, Installation, and Independent Study, courses within the Studio Arts curriculum such as Senior Seminar, and general undergraduate liberal arts courses such as First-Year Seminar. Experience with Video/New Media is an advantage. Background in Art History and a commitment to its necessity in Studio Arts education is required. There will be a total of 6 courses per academic year. This position requires additional departmental/institutional duties such as committee work, student advising and recruitment, as well as demonstrable personal artistic scholarship. The Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia is seeking applicants for a fellowship. They get about 300 applicants a year. Compared to NYFA, which is closer to 5000, you have increased odds.
