Assistant Professor of Art - Drawing and Painting (non tenure-track)

The Department of Art at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time contract faculty position in Drawing and Painting for academic year 2013/14 (08/26/2013 - 05/25/2014). This position is subject to confirmation of funding availability.

Appointment will be as a contract assistant professor beginning 26 August 2013 and concluding 25 May 2014. Renewal of this appointment may be possible for an additional term or terms depending on availability of funding.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) M.F.A. in Art or equivalency (see Department of Art Policy Statement below); (2) Practicing artist in Drawing and Painting; (3) Evidence of an active exhibition record and demonstrated excellence in and recognition of dynamic ongoing creative research on a regional, national and/or international level.

Department of Art Policy Statement
In lieu of an M.F.A. in Art, the following could be considered in determining professional recognition and experience:
1) Advanced studies at a foreign school that does not award an M.F.A. in Art;
2) Extended advanced study with recognized artists in the field;
3) Professional achievement which would provide a depth of knowledge of the field comparable to an M.F.A. in Art;
4) Evaluation by leaders in the field attesting that the candidate's exhibition record and other professional achievement constitutes the equivalent of an M.F.A. in Art.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: One to three years university or college-level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation and professional experience in drawing and painting; evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher; and strength of recommendations.

Duties/Responsibilities
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Commitment and dedication to both undergraduate and graduate teaching in a nationally respected visual arts program within the College of Liberal Arts; (2) Teach five courses per academic year in drawing and painting within a fine arts department; (3) Advise undergraduate/graduate students; (4) Participate on graduate reviews/thesis committees.

SERVICE: Serve on departmental committees

RESEARCH: Engage in scholarly research or other creative activity that leads to exhibition and professional visibility.
