Art Instructors (Sculpture, Stone Carving, Ceramics, Oil Painting)

The Educational Alliance Art School has part-time instructor openings for its pottery, clay sculpture, stone carving and oil painting courses.

Openings for Adult classes:
Figurative clay sculpture- Saturday mornings 10:30am - 1pm
Stone carving- Tuesday mornings 10:30am - 1pm
Beginning oil painting (Must have experience teaching representational painting.)-evenings and Saturdays
Ceramics- evenings
Monitor- ceramics studio- Sundays

For the Young Artists Program:
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates should have experience teaching adolescents in a school, museum, camp or community center.

Young Artists Program (students age 10-18) positions:
Oil Painting teacher - Saturdays
Ceramics teacher- Saturdays

The ceramics teaching position requires a deep familiarity with ceramics studios. Knowledge of hand-building techniques, wheel throwing, glazing, and finishing applications are a must, in addition to studio etiquette and procedures. The Young Artists Program welcomes teachers who can fuse functional lessons with creative projects.

The oil painting position requires representational painting skills and comfort teaching color mixing, underpainting and perspective to students with varying levels of experience.

Standard health and security requirements for teaching children in NYC will be required of the selected candidate. This includes proof of TB immunization and finger printing.

Candidates should be teaching artists, able to maintain both a professional art practice and an active role as an educator. They should have experience teaching or working with adolescents, and the ability to work with people from a wide variety of cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds. Teachers must have an interest in designing a project-based curriculum that includes gallery and studio visits, artist talks, workshops and demonstrations. They need to have had experience planning and hanging exhibitions. Flexibility, good communication skills and the ability to maintain an orderly classroom are a must. A BFA or MFA is desirable.
