SPACES Artist-in-Residency Program

Description
The SPACES Artist Residency brings artists in residence and community members together to nurture the creation of SPACE — space to create, to dream, to build, and to transform physical landscapes — in North Central Philadelphia.
Cycle 2 SPACES Visiting Artists will live at The Village of Arts and Humanities for six months in a creatively renovated row home. They will lead a core team of Neighborhood Artists (community members nominated by peers and Village staff) to co-design and execute a transformative artistic project that addresses issues of social equity in our community.
Artists will receive an honorarium — independent of project costs — of $15,000 for a six-month period. If the residency period is extended by mutual agreement between artists and The Village, then the honorarium will be increased to reflect this change.
We invite a new generation of artists to continue The Village’s legacy; one that supports and encourages students and community members to utilize artistic skill and creative problem solving in activating spaces in our neighborhood—both physical and imagined.
