Director of Education

Hours: Full time

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Qualifications:
BA or BFA in arts or education fields, MA or MFA preferred
Ten (10) years experience in arts education issues and practices, including curriculum design and development, the supervision and professional development of teaching artists, knowledge of family and community involvement in arts education programs, the use of technology in the service of arts education, program evaluation and assessment, and a working knowledge of NYC public schools systems and policies
Professional experience with contemporary trends in pedagogical practices and arts education theory, including both sequential and process-based learning
Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and writing
Excellent personnel management
Knowledge of financial management
Professional experience as a working artist preferred

Responsibilities:
Cultivates and oversees all performance and visual arts training programs, including curriculum design, recruitment and supervision of teaching artists, program evaluation, and management of administrative staff
Cultivates and oversees all artist residencies in NYC public schools, including program design, evaluation and assessment, recruitment and supervision of teaching artists, and outreach to NYC schools and administrators
Collaborates with the Abrons' performance, gallery, and AIRspace programs to create classes and public programs (e.g., workshops, artist talks, gallery talks, etc.), which bridge and support the Abrons' eclectic series of performances, events and exhibitions
Manages $800,000 departmental budget
Manages departmental staff
Collaborates in crafting grant applications
Remains current with trends in contemporary artistic and pedagogical practices
